Students learn a range of communication techniques such as freehand sketching, isometric drawing and orthographic projection. Students produce a prototype mouse with ergonomic features that is inspired by aesthetics and forms found in nature.

Students learn about categories of plastics, joining methods and manufacturing processes. They design their own vibrant, colourful and kitsch clock inspired by the works of the Memphis group. They are also introduced to CAD drawings using Adobe Illustrator and CAM through use of the laser cutter.

Students are taught about mechanisms such as gears, pulleys, levers and ratchets. They learn about motion and how mechanisms are used to convert motion, speed it up and slow it down. Students apply that knowledge by designing and manufacturing a mechanical grabber, which reflects the concepts of conservation of materials through minimising waste.
